Living a Life That Truly Appreciates God’s Blessings
God laid on my heart to discuss the difference between being thankful and the appreciation of His blessings. Although similar and we should be thankful there is so much more to appreciation than just being thankful for what God is doing and has done in your life.
Thankfulness is more about expressing gratitude, while appreciation goes a step deeper, it’s action.
It’s about valuing, stewarding, and responding well to what God has given us.
1. Stewardship – Using His Gifts Well
Appreciation involves taking care of what God has given us and not just saying thanks.
• Matthew 25:14–30 (Parable of the Talents) – The servants who used the talents they were given were praised. The one who buried his out of fear was rebuked.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
This parable shows that appreciating what God gives us includes actively using those blessings to honor Him.
2. Contentment – Valuing What You Have
Appreciation also means not overlooking blessings while chasing others.
• 1 Timothy 6:6–8
“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
Appreciating God’s blessings means learning to see the richness in what we already have.
3. Generosity – Sharing What God Has Given You
When we really value what we’ve been given, we’re more likely to share it.
• 2 Corinthians 9:11
“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion…”
God blesses us not just for our sake, but so that we can bless others. Blessing others is one of the deepest forms of appreciation.
4. Praise in Action – Living a Life That Reflects Gratitude
True appreciation overflows into action and worship. This means appreciating God’s blessings by living in a way that honors Him.
5. Remembrance – Not Forgetting the Source
It’s easy to forget where blessings come from.
• Deuteronomy 8:10–18
“Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”
Appreciating God’s blessings means keeping Him at the center of our success and provision.
Summary:
Appreciating God’s blessings means more than saying “thank you.” It means:
• Using what He gives us with purpose
• Valuing it deeply, not just superficially
• Sharing with others
• Living in a way that reflects His goodness
• Remembering He is the source
